The “IgNobel Prize” is known to given out it’s award to humorous and original discoveries. On September 28th 2014, Professor Mabuchi (age 63) and colleagues at Kitasato University, School of Allied Health Sciences has been awarded the Physics Prize for their experiments and discovery of “Why banana peel slipperiness are caused when stepped on” and had the award ceremony at Harvard University, Cambridge Massachusetts, USA.

Professor Mabuchi is known for his research for prosthetic joint said that the motivation for this research was that “There is a similarity between the lubrication around cartilage and banana skin, they have similar friction but there were no scientific data for this” He explained this while singing and made people laugh.

 

At the award ceremony, the speaker has to make people laugh with his/her speech. Also when the time is up, a little girl comes ups and say “Please stop. I’m bored.” many times, and the speech is to stopped.

In Japan, this made big news since this was the 8th person in a row to win the IgNobel Prize.
