In the virtual game world, we can see some unusual characters from time to time. Take a look at the Angry Birds, from Finland for example. Doesn’t it have a interesting look? Now here come Nameko from “Nameko Saibai Kit, or “the kit for cultivating nameko”. (Note from translator: Nameko is a name of a small, amber-brown mushroom with a slightly slimy gelatinous coating that is commonly used as an ingredient in miso soup in Japan.) At one point, it was so popular that almost everyone that had a smart phone in Japan had the app, and they grew and cultivated this mushroom.

Japanese people love anything that is cute, and they are very good at making them edible. “Chara-Ben”, a homemade bento containing food decorated to look like cute characters (from anime, etc.) is a good example of that. Now they have turned the brown slimy mushroom, Nameko into something cute and edible.
