Kabukicho in Shinjuku has the biggest nightlife district in Japan. The video game “Yakuza” takes place here, and it’s a city full of extraordinary underground activities.

The “Koma Gekijo” used to be the landmark of Kabukicho, and was a well know theatre from 1956 to 2008 which has been a host of all kinds of shows from Enka concerts to Japanese musicals.

On April 7th, 2015 a multiplex movie theatre “TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku” is opening in where Koma Gekijo used to stand. This multiplex has announced that they will mainly focus on animation, and they will even start a new anime label called “Cine x Ani”. “Cine x Ani” will focus not only on anime movies, but they are planning to screen TV anime as well.

Let’s see if Kabukicho can be the next Akihabara, Ikebukuro, and Nakano, and become a holy city to anime lovers.
