The whole universe is expressed in a little pot no bigger than the palm of my hand by combining trees, leaves, moss, rocks, and dirt. This is called Bonsai, and is a minimal garden plant that Japan has created.
In Japan nowadays, Bonsai is thought as an old person’s hobby, and not many young people enjoy it. But recently it is drawing attention for the sophistication it has.
The DIY store Tokyu HANDS Shibuya has opened a “BONSAI CAFE” until April 5th. The menu has a Bonsai theme.
The “BONSAI Tiramisu – the green shoots-“, expresses the new leaves that just came out of the dirt.
The “Matcha Latte -BONSAI-“, uses the most commonly used tree in the Bosai, the pine tree, as a motif.
The “Moss-BONSAI Sundae”, uses matcha (green tea powder) to imitate the moss.
Talk session by the museum educator from the The Omiya Bonsai Art Museum, and demonstrations on how to take care of the Bonsai will take place during this period.
Bonsai may not be the quick and easy hobby, but why don’t you have a little taste of it with a latte and a sundae.
